What's the Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz?

So who here likes bees? I for one hate them, it has nothing to do with the bee itself but just with the simple fact that every time I have ever encountered one I was stung in some of the most unfortunate places… which leads to my justified hate, but a study done at Lund University has come to show the bees can be more than just a nascence, they can be a possible alternative to antibiotics. Lund University in Sweden found 13 lactic acid bacteria found in fresh honey, located in the in the bees honey stomach. Why are these 13 lactic acid bacteria so important? Well its simple, bees honey has been used against infections for millennium before we mass produced and sold it in stores. But now we look at the agents these bacteria’s contain and as the Lund University discovered bees honey can be used to help several server human wound pathogens such as MRSA, VRE and more. So when you see those little buggers remember they may sting you when bothered but there honey will be the things helping you one of these days.

  1. I did not know this about bees. This is really cool topic that you have chose. I was always afraid of bees, but to now know that they can do some good makes me less wary about them. I wonder if when they sting you; you can get a health effect like what honey does to us? /since they kill infection, I wonder if honey can be used in our everyday lives? For example can we use honey to kill microbes while we are cleaning our homes? I am also wondering what other testing they will do since they have this information?

  2. I have never heard of this before. It is very interesting. Its sad to know that bees die after they sting someone. I wonder if other insects can help as antibiotics and not just bees. I have used honey for ant bites and when i have a cold (not sure if it even did anything). What is in honey that makes it useful for infections? Is it just lactic acid?

  3. I, personally am terrified of bees! Anything with a stinger! I absolutely hate them, but it is interesting to think that they may be contributing to our overall health in some way is very exciting. It is interesting to think that there are all these new and different possible "cures" so-to-say popping up. Love your title! Have a great weekend!
